Who pays for Close Quarters

Checked October 8, 2026By the Map Room

Close Quarters runs on one thing: commission from an online casino partner, earned through the links marked Ad on the home page. Nothing else pays for the map, the distances or the casino pages.

Where the money comes from

The home page carries three paid links, and each one is marked Ad. One sits in the menu. Another sits in a block just below the first screen, and the third appears near the end of the page. All three lead to the same online casino partner.

Close Quarters earns a commission from that partner. That commission is how the guide pays for itself. The partner can change, so this page does not name it.

Inner pages carry no paid links. The casino pages, the distance notes and the page on online play in Alberta have no ads of any kind. A page about which casino stands next to which stays a page about geography. Readers who never open the home page never see an ad.

Who does not pay

Venues, operators, the province and help services never pay this site. No casino on the map bought its place there, and none paid for a description. Links to the casinos' own sites, to regulators and to help services are not paid links. They are there because a reader may need them.

Readers get no rewards from the guide, and nothing is offered for a visit or a click. Close Quarters is not a casino either. It takes no bets, has no accounts and no cashier, and is not affiliated with any venue or operator. It is a map with notes attached.

The rules the ads follow

Anyone who advertises an online gaming site in Alberta must follow AGLC's standards, and that includes this guide. Each ad must carry a responsible gambling message. Ads must not target minors, use people who appear to be minors, or link gaming to attractiveness or status. The legal gambling age in Alberta is 18.

A reader can also check any online operator directly. AiGC keeps a directory of registered iGaming sites at abigaming.ca/players/registered-igaming-sites. If an operator is not in that directory, it is not regulated. Approved operators display the AiGC logo.

Questions

Does a casino pay to be on the map?

No casino pays to be on the map. Venues, operators, the province and help services never pay this site. Each casino has one map point, and no casino pays for it.

Why is there an ad at all?

The commission from the online casino partner is what pays for the guide. Nobody else pays this site. The paid links sit on the home page only, three of them, each marked Ad.

Does the partner change?

The partner behind the paid links can change, so the guide does not name it. Whichever partner it is, all three links lead to that same one, and inner pages carry none.
